Real life “Deep Impact” or “Armegeddon”?

By | December 29, 2004

Hmmm… there’s a concerning story on Space.com regarding an asteroid that may hit our planet. “The risk of an impact by asteroid 2004 MN4 […] is now pegged at having a 1-in-45 chance of striking the planet on April 13, 2029.” I don’t know about you, but I don’t like those odds at all.

Fortunately, there is potentially good news: “Astronomers still stress that it is very likely the risk will be reduced to zero with further observations. And even as it stands with present knowledge, the chances are 97.8 percent the rock will miss Earth.”

Still, while a 2.2% chance is slight, I’ll feel much better once it is determined that the rock has ZERO chance of impact.
