Pastor apologizes for “Jews killed Jesus” sign

By | March 3, 2004

Wow… I had heard about this story last week: A local pastor – Maurice Gordon – of the United Pentecostal Church put a sign outside of his church that said, “Jews Killed the Lord Jesus.” The pastor was then surprised as an angry mob formed outside his church to protest the sign, and a woman brought a ladder to the church and pulled the word “Jews” off the sign.

The pastor has officially apologized for the sign, saying that he is “‘deeply sorry for offending the Jewish people.'”

I wouldn’t mention this story at all, were it not for the fact that I’ve been in that church. Once upon a time, in pursuit of a woman, I joined the United Pentecostal Church. We went to a few celebrations at “Brother Gordon’s” church in Denver. Pastor Gordon always annoyed me – he is a hellfire-and-brimstone ultra-conservative ultra-righteous person who believes that he is right and everyone else is wrong. He annoyed me, but then I basically forgot all about him, ’til I saw this story. Weird how things from the past come up every now and then.
