Estes Park Trustee Ousted Over Pledge Controversy

By | March 23, 2005

Apparently Estes Park residents aren’t too big on that Freedom of Speech thing. Residents voted to recall town trustee David Habecker because Habecker refused to say the pledge of allegiance at council meetings. Habecker refuses to stand for the pledge because of person beliefs. However, apparently in the eyes of Estes Park residents, this makes Habecker un-American. “‘That’s what it’s come down to in this country,’ Habecker said after the votes were tallied. ‘If you aren’t a Christian, you are not a patriot. These are the conclusions that are being made out there and they are wrong, wrong, wrong.'”

Thank you, Estes Park, for showing that intolerance is still alive and well here in Colorado.
