Seriously free stuff: Free Federal Tax Return eFiling!

By | February 7, 2005

Whoa! I didn’t believe this when I first read about it, but it is true. The federal government has a free eFile offer for Federal income tax returns this year. To access the program, follow this link to Free File Home – Your Link to Free Online Filing. The site includes a list of different online services to use to prepare and submit your Federal return, including TurboTax For the Web.

I was very hesitant to do this. I figured there had to be some kind of scam. But I decided to see what the scam was, and used the Fed’s link to the free TurboTax on the Web. I went through the hour or so process to prepare our tax return, and then filed it electronically. All for free! My total cost to prepare and submit this year’s Federal and Colorado State tax returns was $20 (for the state return).

This is ultra-cool!
