Google launches year’s first April Fool’s Day joke?

By | March 31, 2004

I am almost positive that Google’s announcement regarding Gmail, a free 1gb mail account is an April Fool’s Day joke released a day early. Partially, it is because the date on Google’s press release is April 1 (even though the “story” hit the newswire on March 31st). But even better evidence is one phrase in Google’s press release: “Millions of M&Ms later, Gmail was born.”

If it’s not a hoax, I’ll be signing up for a Gmail account. But I am positive that won’t happen. This has to be an April Fool’s joke.
