“It’s 2003, and we’re defending the theory of evolution?”

I have to agree with the baffled question posed by Samantha Smoot regarding Texas hearings on science textbooks: “It’s 2003, and we’re defending the theory of evolution?'”

Even scarier is the quote: “In 2002, in an effort to appease Texas, references to the Ice Age as occurring ‘millions of years ago’ in a history textbook were changed to read ‘in the distant past’ so it wouldn’t conflict with literal interpretations of the Bible.” There are people who still believe everything was created 6,000 years ago. Even though we have a solid fossil record showing that there were animals living on this planet millions of years ago.

I don’t know whether to laugh or cry…
