Every now and then, someone does something that proves just how hard it is to truly back free speech. In this case, someone distirbuted over a hundred fliers containing a racist message to Eagle resident’s houses and cars. The Eagle county sherriff’s office says these fliers may have been distributed by National Alliance, a white supremacist group.
In a case like this, one would want to have the people distributing this racist garbage arrested for attempting to keep racism alive and well in the world. Yet the concept of free speech would prohibit this. No matter how vile the message, the fact is that it is their opinion, and they have the right to voice that opinion.
