911 Tape Released In Fatal Aurora Police Shooting

By | August 12, 2003

There’s a little more information available today regarding the woman, Michelle Washington, who was shot by an Aurora police officer last week. The 911 call was released. During the call (placed by a family member), it was revealed that Ms. Washington was on medication for mental problems. However, the 911 dispatcher did not relay this information to the officers who were at the scene.

I don’t know if that information would’ve kept the officer from shooting her or not, but it could’ve helped. I think that these types of situations prove that police officers need to be trained to use non-lethal force in all but the most drastic situations.
